All anglers between 18 and 65 years of age need a valid fishing licence to fish in Danish fishing waters. So children under 18 years and pensioners are allowed to go angling without fishing licences. The only exception to this law is the so-called put-and-take-lakes.

You need to take out a fishing licence before you start angling, and the licence must be valid for the period, when you are angling. The fisheries control makes randomly checks, and if your fishing licence is not in order, you will be fined. The money, which the state collects on the sales of fishing licences are 100% used for stocking and researching of modern fish care.

The licence, which is available at the tourist office, is valid for a year and costs DKK 125.00. It is also possible to buy licences valid for a day or a week at DKK 30.00 og DKK 90.00. to this comes an administrative fee of DKK 10.00 per licence. Lakes and watercourses
In most cases the angling right for lakes and watercourses is private, but it is often rented out to local angler associations. If you want to go angling in such places, you will need a special fishing licence for the fishing water in question, in addition to the normal angling fishing licence. An angling licence for a day costs from DKK DKK 40-150 and for a week approx. DKK 100-350.

The tourist office can give you detailed information about fresh water angling and issue fishing licences. Fishing licences are also available at the local anglers' association. On www.dagkort.dk it is possible to order day/weekend/week licences and annual licences for the fishing waters which are registered in Denmark, and you can also find survey maps for each fishing water registered. The website works in the following way: You order and pay via the internet, and you will immediately get an e-mail which confirms your order, whereupon you can print out your licence on your own printer.
