Kolding River is a watercourse, which apart from the lower part, follows it natural course. The clear water and the natural course of the river makes the river a natural habitat for a large number of animals and plants. The river has a very fine fish stock, which a.o. includes: river trout, pike, bream, roach, tench, perch, sea trout, rainbow trout, salmon, eel and flounder.

Regulations regarding the Kolding River system
In Kolding River angling may take place on the left bank downstream from the confluence of Åkær River Vester Nebel River and Kolding River until Plovfuren, and from Plovfuren on the right bank downsteam until Vester Ringgade at the city limit. Each angler must only use one rod. Maximum take per day: 5 fish, however not more than 3 river trouts (eels excepted). Pike is preserved during April.
Minimum measurements: Salmon 60cm, sea trout 40cm, river trout 30cm, rainbow trout 30cm, pike 40cm, yellow eels 45cm.
Preservation periods:
The Kolding River system upstream to the confluence of Åkær River, Vester Nebel River and Kolding River (Åkær River and Vester Nebel River) is totally preserved during the period from 1 November until 31 March, both days included.. The Kolding River system upstream at the Motorway bridge (E45) until the confluence of Åkær River, Vester Nebel River and Kolding River (Kolding River) is totally preserved during the period from 1 November until 31 March, both days included. The Kolding River system downstream from the Motorway bridge (E45) (Kolding River) is totally preserved during the period from 1 November until 15 January, both days included.
